Preschool Class

Westminster
Presbyterian Preschool & Kindergarten

In the Presbyterian Church (USA), faith formation has always been one of the highest priorities of the church’s ministry.

The education ministry at WPC is comprehensive with opportunities for children and adults. The majority of our educational opportunities occur on Sunday mornings, but others occur at various times during the week.

What We Do

WPPK's philosophy is to recognize and appreciate each child, individually, building upon the child's cognitive, creative, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual strengths. By providing an environment that is nurturing, warm, and inviting for children to discover and create learning, each child thrives at his or her own pace of learning and ability. Children learn best by doing. Therefore, WPPK promotes active involvement for children to construct their knowledge. The opportunity to question, try again, and learn from a learning and intellectual curiosity are ongoing, developed processes assisted by many different resources.

Through the utilization of centers in the classroom, children are continually presented with interactive, hands-on, play-based learning that provides children with exceptional academic content while cultivating an enjoyment of the learning process. Independence and responsibility are continually supported. Instruction is presented in small and large groups along with one-on-one individualized planning. Through the centers, children integrate language, math, science, social studies, reasoning, problem-solving, listening, expressive and receptive language, peer interaction, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills. This developmental program is based on the assumption that growth is sequential. As children pass through predictable, sequenced stages of development and art, music, literature, movement, and creative dramatics, children tap into their creative abilities and natural curiosities as well as build creative expression.

In a stimulating and rich environment, children meet with success while developing positive patterns for learning. Christian virtues of compassion, responsibility, perseverance, and others are infused throughout all age levels and contribute to the development of respect for others and an appreciation for one’s unique value to the world.

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

These special programs are offered through our extended days. In order to provide the highest quality learning opportunities, we maintain low teacher/child ratios.

Social Responsibility

Each year the 4s & Kindergarten classes engage in experiences that begin to plant the seed of awareness to the needs of others around them.  The goal is to provide children the opportunity to give back to others in meaningful child-centered, hands-on ways.  Our projects have included making 300+ sandwiches for the Austin Street Shelter, collecting pet needs for SPCA, a food drive for North Dallas Shared Ministries, making birthday boxes for boys and girls through Captain Hope Society, and environmental and recycling experiences.

Fine Arts

Several classes are offered as part of our weekly curriculum to enhance appreciation for the arts. The length of class and the frequency depends on the age of the children.

WPPK Offers:

  • Library / Literature

  • Motor Skills

  • Capers for Kids

Chapel

Chapel is included in our morning program for 4 year olds through Kindergarten. Christian principles are emphasized daily throughout the curriculum along with prayer.
